V-day in Taos/Santa Fe

The drive to New Mexico was about 4 1/2 hours. We started around 6pm, stopped in the Springs for dinner, and nearly ran out of gas around the border. There is NOTHING more frightening than being in the middle of nowhere without a gas station and the gas light on. We made it to Raton, filled the tank, and spent the last hour of the drive breathing easy :)

Every good road trip begins with Easy Cheese...

The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge - Taos
Valentine's Day Dinner at El Meze, Taos. The food here was unbelievable. We were so inspired that we came home and bought the equipment to make our own pasta based on the homemade pasta dish that I ordered. Sam was kind enough to behead his fish and hide the 'fish heads fish heads, rolly polly fish heads' under his salad while I wasn't looking.
On the 3rd day we drove down to Santa Fe. Spent the afternoon in the plaza, visited the Loretta Chapel, and ate lunch at the Blue Corn Cafe - just ok.
The Loretta Chapel from outside. The 'miraculous' staircase. This was a pretty awesome display of carpentry, despite not being allowed to climb it. When first built it did not have a hand rail, can you even imagine?
Our last evening was spent at Ten Thousand Waves. I can't say enough good things about this experience. We stayed in the neatest zen inspired room. The fridge was pre stocked with graprefruit, granola and rice milk. Fresh firewood outside and a quick walk up winding stairs to the spa. We were treated that evening to massages and a private hot tub under the stars (a bottle of wine and strawberries).
Our Room
How can you beat a room that comes with Chocolate Buddhas, kimonos, and sandals?

I would recommend this place 100% to anyone visiting New Mexico!! It truly felt like being transported into a different world (ok, maybe a lot like Japan, but I've never been there so I can't say for sure).
